Traditional Asians? Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Policy Attitudes in the United States

American stereotypes depict the pan-Asian culture as monolithically traditional in matters of gender and sexual politics. Most national surveys include too few Asian respondents to assess validity these claims, much less interrogate differences across Asian-ancestry groups. Using data from 2016 National Survey, this study examines racial ethnic variability support for policies that would extend rights protections women minorities. Results provide no evidence traditionalism, they show more attitudinal heterogeneity groups than is popularly recognized. Some linked sociocultural traits, including religion, politics, nativity, education, gender-identity salience. Substantial remains unexplained, however. Future research should explore how maps onto distinctive regimes ancestral countries different histories immigrant reception within United States.
